Week 2
Team:
This week we decided to focus on corruption and had a few more ideas on what we could do.
after a lot of talking, we decided to do some sort of driving game, where the player is tired or drunk, and has to make their way down the road, the road is dangerous and has many obstacles in the way. we both had very different ideas and decided to test a feature each, jamie would test obstacles coming at you, while Andrea would test the driving and static obstacles.
Jamie:
I started off by creating a simple road, the road had three lanes, indicating where the obstacles would come from, and where the player could go. then I added the ability to move the player between the lanes, this meant that the player couldn't sit between two lanes.
i started working on the obstacles, I made it so they spawned once per second, and then then moved on one of the lanes towards the player at a constant rate, this made it impossible for the player to get stuck or have an unfair death.
lastly I added a game over screen and some particles and started the playtests.
i found that people preferred Andreas free driving car, but liked my moving obstacles, so I think we are going to combine those ideas for next week
Andrea
So we cracked on our new ideas, we named many different cool, interesting ideas we could work on. So the big idea we came up with was a roadrunner endless runner game where it’s set on a M50 type of motorway. The idea would be that the road the player is driving on is corrupted where some parts of the road disjointed, different bumps , obstacles, anything that would cause diversions into the players like obstacles to manoeuvre, basically drive to survive type of game but the environment is slightly corrupted. The corruption in the game is mainly based on the road. The road might be slightly bumpy and unpredictable. The unpredictability of the game is the main mechanic/feature. In this Prototype we were given the idea of corruption, how do we portray this corruption feature into our game and it really got us thinking of what, how, what do we start with. The ideas we’re starting to come through. The idea that really stood out for us was creating a corrupted Endless runner game where the player would be driving a car on a road that contains corrupted elements throughout the game. For e.g. Bumpy roads, unique obstacles laying on the road for the player to dodge them, rising road panel’s, the road changing speed rotation, many other elements aswell. The goal would be for e.g. survive for 5 miles, reach a certain destination. Ultimately the goal would be ‘Dodge em!!’ Avoid any anomalies.
