week 1
Team:
we started by spilling a few ideas onto a page, we thought of a few games, such as doing a rogue-like 2D/3D game, a 3D rogue-like co-op game, a fall guys-inspired platformer, and a platformer with puzzle elements.
in the end, we decided to do a puzzle platformer with ragdolls.
Andrea had a few ideas we could do and decided to playtest based on those ideas, Andrea tested to see what the environment should be and feel like, while Jamie tested out movement and the preferred way people like to move around a level.
Jamie:
I started out by making a basic scene, then followed a simple tutorial to get a player to move in all directions on a 3d plane and jump. once this was done I played with the values and fixed some bugs I had encountered, such as the player not being able to jump 100% of the time
then I placed blocks and ramps around the level, these weren't random, I wanted to test specific paths and ways for the player to move around. an idea we had was for the player to use a plank to get around the level and beat puzzles, so I decided to place planks on the level to see if players liked the idea, or hated it. after setting out my level and making a path for the player to follow I continued to make it.
my main focus was the planks in the level, as our idea would be to use them extensively in the game if people liked them, so coming into the playtest y first question will always be "how did you feel when in that section of the level, was there anything that stood out or you didn't like?"
Andrea
In our introduction to the game project which we were given to come up with a few prototypes/concepts for the game we are going to make, so we came up with many different prototype-type ideas. Our idea was pretty much to create a game with inspiration from a few number of different games like fall guys and Fall flat games with a feel of an explorer/puzzle game where the player would control the rag doll/alien, they would have to control them and help to cross over a section of a bridge. We came up with a concept to work with and started to work on our first prototype.
